In a reference to the special court’s verdict in the Musharraf treason case, Federal Minster for Science and Technology Fawad Chaudhry Friday said the matter is not limited to the former military dictator only as Pakistan Army is being targeted through a special campaign.
In a series of tweets, the minister referred to the earlier judgments of the Supreme Court (penned by Justice Qazi Faez Isa) in the Faizabad dharna case and the judgment (penned by Justice Mansoor Ali Shah) in the army chief tenure extension case. “ISI was dragged into [Tehreek-e] Labbaik sin-in case and then the extension issue was made controversial and now a famous former army chief is disgraced,” he stated, adding that the series of events is no longer a judicial or a legal issue and ‘has gone beyond that’.
Fawad also warned of ‘anarchy’ in the country if the institution of army is divided or weakened. “General Bajwa and the security establishment have supported the civilian setup, but this should not be considered as weakness,” the minister said.
Meanwhile, Special Assistant to Prime Minister on Information and Broadcasting Dr Firdous Ashiq Awan has said the government will continue facilitating national institutions to work within their constitutional domains.
Talking to the media, she said the government would ensure internal stability in the country. She said the armed forces have offered unprecedented sacrifices in the war against terrorism. Both the civil and military leadership collectively strived for the revival of national economy and projected its soft image across the world, she said.
The SAPM said the Musharraf treason case verdict contained a paragraph which was not only against the constitution but also against socio-cultural values of the society. “If someone trespasses the constitutional role given to him, the law comes into action,” she said, adding the government will fulfill its responsibility and file a reference in the Supreme Judicial Council against the Special Court judge for writing the said para.
Earlier, in a tweet, she stressed that harmony and mutual trust amongst the institutions is need of the hour. She said strong institutions are imperative for country’s progress, promotion of democracy and welfare of the masses. She said Prime Minister Imran Khan and the military leadership were jointly steering the country out of challenges in an efficient manner.
