Karachi – Additional Inspector General (AIG) Karachi Mushtaq Maher on Thursday said that 16 suspects had been arrested in relation to the ongoing ‘mysterious’ knife attacks on girls in Gulistan-e-Jauhar area of Karachi.
Since last week, terror has gripped residents of Gulistan-i-Jauhar area after media hysteria was created as news of a knife attacking biker targeting women emerged.
Following the news hysteria, police did launch a manhunt and an investigation in the motive surrounding these attacks.
Three First Information Reports (FIRs) have so far been registered, two from Shahrah-i-Faisal police station and one at the Gulistan-i-Jauhar police station ? on the complaint of three women who said that they had been attacked by a lone “knife-wielding” motorcyclist.
Police have so far arrested 15 suspects till Wednesday night and another key suspect on Thursday, so far 10 women have been stabbed in Karachi according to official reports.
Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah took notice of the attacks also and said: “Why is this happening and why has the police failed to arrest the culprit?”
CM Sindh also announced a reward of Rs 0.5 million for any potential lead that can help catch the attackers.
